ICT is a key area where valuable cost savings can be made
to help improve the profitability of your organisation. KDDI
were approached by a UK national retail customer who wanted
to maintain the level of communication between warehouses,
stores and Head Office, but simply wanted do it more cost effectively.
We visited their premises to investigate the current facilities
which gave us a full picture of the requirement and to see
if it was possible to make use of their existing infrastructure
in our solution. As the customer already had in place a good
IP network for managing stock and to access head office systems,
plus a relatively modern PBX (TDM based), IP telephony was
possible. By installing an IP card in their PBX we were able
to convert their voice traffic to IP and connected to their
IP network. This was only half of the solution however, as
we were able to supply call management software and servers
as well as IP phones.The solution was very well received as
it allowed the customer to retain their current PBX which had
two years left to run on its forecasted financial depreciation.
It also allowed for future migration to a full IP based PBX
when the time came which would be a lower capital investment
than a TDM based solution. All this was in addition to the
per call savings!
